Character
Character Name: Daring Do
Series: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Gender: Female
Age & Canon Point: Pony ages are complicated, so a young adult, I figure. Canon point is technically after the “Read it and Weep” episode, but since Daring Do is a special case, I’ll go over it in the history section.
Requested Sponsor: N/A
Entry position (Cadet, SeeD, Instructor, other): Instructor in Survival Skills (T/TH) and First Aid (M/W/F)
History: The confusing part about Daring Do is that technically, she’s not part of the show. She’s a fictional character from a series of books within the show, so she doesn’t have any real involvement or relationships with the cast, but she does have an episode to herself…sort of. Hopefully, this’ll clarify things.
Garden History: To be frank, it was a pretty tough year in Garden due to being in a new place with humans (who don’t exist in the MLP world), but being the adventurous type that she is, Daring Do adjusted to things after some time and eventually made it through her time as a student there. The only real problem she encountered was being taken seriously as a pony; she’s had tons of experience surviving on her own through dangerous adventures and hunting history’s greatest treasures, but when you’re that cute, people tend not to listen to what she had to say.

Thankfully, her work ethic was heard more than she was. Daring demonstrated great promise in history and field work since you know, being the best fictional pony archaeologist ever. More important than her knowledge of surviving out in the field is her ability to teach others the techniques she’s used, so eventually, she took the exam to become an instructor and boom goes the dynamite that’s just about it.

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities: Colorful pony with wings what is this madness As a Pegasus pony, Daring Do is very much capable of flight. She’s not as fast as Rainbow Dash, but she has more stability with her movement. She can also chill on clouds and buck them around when necessary. Also, there’s some weather control as per the usual for MLP pegasi, but it’s not something Daring does much.
Personality: Daring Do’s adventurous behavior and incredible level of bravery stem from her early years, when even as a filly, she would explore places ponies weren’t allowed to go. Though it was more from her natural curiosity than anything else, she always enjoyed a challenge and pushing herself to her limits, both physically and mentally.

Despite being a very avid flyer and the best in her class, she knew she could always do better. It wasn’t enough to just be fast; she had to be smart. It was then when she decided to pick up reading, studying everything she could. Through this, she picked up a very strong interest in Equestrian history and the artifacts it contained…especially the ones that were still lost in time. Realizing her passion for unearthing the secrets of ponykind’s past, Daring Do decided that she would be the one to discover what hasn’t been discovered, to bring to light what was hidden in time, to be the greatest treasure hunter and archaeologist in all of Equestria!

But doing so would come at a cost: Equestria was incredibly large and in it, countless places to explore. If she really wanted to be the best, then that would mean putting herself in the danger of the unknown and very possibly, out of contact with everyone; if something were to happen to her, she would be entirely on her own…however, such risks didn’t faze her. She knew and acknowledged them when she decided to become an explorer, so Daring Do did what she did best…and explored her little heart out!

But as her many experiences have taught her, rushing into the heat of things was a terrible idea. Too easy was it to trigger traps by rushing into things and being generally reckless; as such, Daring strongly prefers taking her time to assess things rather than blindly charging forward. Through this, she’s also capable of recognizing patterns and solving puzzles with relative ease. That’s not to say Daring’s a pushover if she has to rush in, however; she’s trained her reflexes and dexterity with years of practice and experience, so something like running down a hallway with spikes getting in the way one by one isn’t a problem for her. And since she’s capable of both quick thinking and problem solving, she’s surprisingly adaptable.

But if there’s one kind of scenario that might leave Daring confused, it would likely be more urban settings or cities in general. Much of her life was been spent on the road or in the jungles, looking for the next lost temple or the latest artifact to be rumored about, so while she can speak to others easily, she doesn’t stick around long enough to make real friends. If she could, then she absolutely would, but because the life of an adventurer is one that mandates constant traveling, it’s not an option that’s really available to her. She’s also much more fond of open areas as opposed to enclosed ones; she’s not claustrophobic, but an adventurous pony like her needs some space to spread her wings and fly!

Daring Do never expected it when she first started exploring, but after countless run-ins with her nemesis, Ahuizotl, it became clear that she would have to become a hero and keep Equestria safe from her nemesis’ clutches. After doing so for several books, she’s come to be very attached to Equestria after essentially being one of its guardians for such a long time. To say she was a patriot would be a great understatement; she loves Equestria almost as much as she loves adventuring and she’s willing to fight for it with every fiber of her being.

What are your plans for the character in-game? Pretty much having her teach everypony everyone how to be as awesome an explorer as she is. Also, missions as they come. Because she loves a good adventure. And treasure hunting.

Anything else? Are you prepared to handle more ponies?

IC
Complete TWO out of the FOUR options.
i) IC Questionnaire (can be found on the application page)
(As this questionnaire is entirely IC, your character is free to lie.)
What do you prefer to be known as? Daring Do.
How old are you? Old enough to take care of myself.

Do you have any history in combat? Somewhat. I try to avoid it, if possible.
If so, have you ever killed? Well, I’m standing right here…so that’s a no.

i) How do you feel when you get involved in some project that calls for immediate and rapid activity? That’s the sort of thing I’m used to! I can handle the sort of pressure that comes from taking immediate action. They wouldn’t be very good traps if they gave you much time to react, would they?

ii) Do you organize and initiate leisure activities? I can, but since I’m almost always on the move, I don’t get much of a chance to do so. An adventurer’s work is never done.

iii) What role do you take when working in a group? I usually work alone, but in a group? I’d try to be the leader and make sure nopony else gets hurt. I have plenty of experience going through dangerous areas and solving puzzles, so I think I can at least get a group moving in the right direction.

iv) How talkative are you around other people? Pretty average, I guess? I can hold up a conversation, but I know some don’t like talking about history as much as I do, so I usually don’t bring it up that often.

v) What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island? State your reasoning. …to be honest, all I’d really take with me is my hat. It’s been with me since I started adventuring and it’s saved my hide more than I can count, so that’s all I’d really need.

But if I had to pick two other things, one of them would be a compass for direction and a map for navigation. That’s all a real adventurer needs.

vi) Is it important to be liked by a wide range of people? Of course it is. Having friends from all over the place is not only helpful; it’s nice, too.

vii) When the odds are against you, is it worth taking a chance? It sure is! Even when the odds are against you, that doesn’t mean all bets are off! It means there’s still a chance to succeed and as long as that’s there, there’s no reason to give up. I wouldn’t be half the pony I am if I gave up a long time ago.

viii) Do you consider yourself to be an impulsive person? Not really, no. As quick as I am on my hooves, I still try to plan out as much as I can before taking that leap forwards. Even adventurers need to have some direction to travel!

ix) Would you agree that planning things ahead takes the fun out of life? Nah, it doesn’t take the fun out of it. I like to think it gives fun a steady direction to move in. Besides, it’s pretty hard to account for everything; trust me.

x) Do you like surprises? Sometimes, yeah. They’re the part of the fun that doesn’t get covered up in a plan. I’ve had my share of good and bad surprises, but overall I’m alright with them.

xi) Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong with you? Nope. I’m fine with the pony I am!

xii) Do you consider yourself to be smarter than your superiors, and disagree with their decisions? Like I said: I’m mostly on my own, so I don’t usually worry about superiors. If I did, then they’d probably be my superior for a reason, but I’ve learned to trust my gut. If it disagrees, then I disagree. Otherwise, I think we all have our specialties, so I might know more about one thing and they know more about another. That’s how thing work, right?

xiii) Lastly, how do you feel about cabbages? They’re…pretty good, I guess. I won’t complain as long as it keeps me moving.
